I’m Running for Re-Election: Here’s What We’ve Accomplished Together

When I first ran for Alderman four years ago, I made a commitment to lead with honesty, common sense, and transparency. I’m proud to say I’ve kept that promise. As someone deeply involved in our city’s finances and planning, I’ve always believed you deserve to know where your money is going and how those decisions affect your everyday life.

We’ve worked hard to stretch each tax dollar, pursue outside funding, and focus on projects that improve daily life in Lexington. Here's a breakdown of where that effort has paid off:

Major Community Investments

Broadband Expansion ($27 Million Secured):
Fast, reliable internet isn’t a luxury anymore. It’s a basic need for education, business, and healthcare. With state and federal help, we’ve brought in over $27 million to expand broadband across Lexington. It’s a game-changer, especially for rural areas that have been left behind for too long.

Utility Infrastructure ($20+ Million for Upgrades):
Much of our water and electric infrastructure was outdated and inefficient. We've brought in more than $20 million to modernize those systems. The result: fewer service disruptions, better efficiency, and long-term savings for ratepayers.

Full Ownership of Lexington Cemetery:
This cemetery is more than a resting place. It’s a piece of our town’s history. By securing full city ownership, we’ve ensured it will be preserved, maintained, and treated with dignity for generations to come.

A New Community Park for Families:
We’ve invested in a brand-new recreational space to bring our community together. Whether it’s kids playing ball, families gathering, or seniors walking for health, this park is an investment in Lexington’s quality of life.

Strong Fiscal Management: The Facts

I know city finances can get complicated, but the bottom line is simple. Lexington is in better financial shape today than we were four years ago.

Here’s what that looks like:

City’s general fund debt is under $1.5 million
This is considered very low for a city of our size. It means more of your tax dollars go toward services instead of debt payments.

Rainy-Day Fund is over $6 million
This gives us breathing room in case of emergencies or unexpected expenses. It helps us avoid raising taxes during hard times.

Solid Waste Department is now self-sustaining
For the first time in years, our trash and recycling services are fully funded by service fees. This reduces reliance on property taxes and supports financial independence in city departments.

Lexington Electric System and LexNet are ahead of schedule and under budget
These two projects are nearly 18 months ahead of schedule and millions of dollars under budget. That’s rare for government projects and shows strong planning and execution.

Smart meters and system upgrades are on the way
Lexington Utilities is set to roll out smart meter technology. This will save time during outages and extreme weather and help manage energy use more efficiently. We’re also building working capital to prepare for future infrastructure needs without borrowing.

Addressing Misinformation

As campaigns heat up, so do the rumors. I’ve heard a lot of questions and concerns. Some are fair; others are based on partial information—about spending on fire trucks, paving projects, and city salaries.

Let me be clear: the decisions we’ve made were not taken lightly. They came after public meetings, expert input, and budget discussions. If you’ve heard something that doesn’t sound right, please reach out. I’m happy to walk through the details with you or invite you to the next city meeting.

The truth matters. You deserve it.

What’s Next?

We’ve made real progress, but the work isn’t done. I’m committed to:

• Continuing responsible budgeting
• Making sure our infrastructure keeps pace with growth
• Improving communication and accessibility with city government
• Keeping politics out of basic services and decision-making

EARLY VOTING: AUGUST 22 TO SEPTEMBER 6
ELECTION DAY: SEPTEMBER 11

If you value steady leadership, straight answers, and common-sense progress, I would be honored to earn your vote again.

Thank you for the privilege of serving you.
